I would like to travel to / from a station that is not on the station list
The Wrexham & Shropshire ticket system sells tickets for Wrexham & Shropshire services only. If you wish to travel between other stations then you may wish to either book a Wrexham & Shropshire ticket for the main part of your journey, and buy add-on tickets at the station.
Alternatively, our sister company Chiltern Railways is able to sell tickets for all UK destinations at www.chilternrailwaysfares.co.uk . If you wish to travel with Wrexham & Shropshire for part of a wider journey via London, you are advised to use “London Marylebone” not “London” on this website, or you may not be offered the right reservations.
I’ve read about a £10 fare, but I can’t find one to book
Not all tickets are available at £10. We generally release at least 10% of our seats at this price, and they are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. If you can’t see them for the train you wish to travel on, then I’m afraid they have already sold out.
Also, don’t forget that £10 is the single fare not the return fare.
However, unlike most train companies we do not charge expensive peak fares, so you should find our normal return fares very good value.
If I book 1 ticket it costs me £10, but if I book 2 it costs me £28. Why are two tickets not double the price of one?
This is because there is only one £10 seat left. When you book for one passenger, you are buying that last seat. However, if you book for two then you’re buying one at £10 and one at a higher price.
Note, if this is the case you had better buy quickly before someone else snaps up that last £10 seat!
I would like to reserve a seat but the system is not letting me Really sorry about that. It is due to issues with the national railway reservations system, which all train companies use. I’m afraid there’s nothing we can do about this as it is not a system we own. If it’s not working now, try again in a couple of hours if possible.
I’ve not been able to complete my booking This is also probably due to the national reservation system, so you’re probably best to try again in a couple of hours. The only other reason might be that you’re traveling today (or tomorrow but it’s late). This system cannot book tickets for today, however you can buy on board the train at no extra cost. No need to queue at the ticket office.
Why can’t a buy a ticket for Wolverhampton or Banbury?
Unfortunately, under the terms of our license we are not permitted to carry passengers between Wolverhampton and London or between Banbury and London. I’m afraid if you wish to use these stations, you’ll need to travel with a different train company. However, if you live in Wolverhampton you might be interested in our stop at Cosford (link to station page), just one mile from the M54 and with free parking.
How far ahead can I book? Normally tickets are released up to 12 weeks in advance. You cannot book an outward journey, or a reservation, beyond this date. The actual date in advance to which you can book will vary slightly as tickets tend to be uploaded in batches.
Do you have a railcard?
If you have a railcard, please select the appropriate railcard here. The discount applicable to your railcard will be shown in your ticket basket.
Please note that, if you are making a booking for more than one person using a railcard, ALL persons in the party must have the railcard. If you want to make a booking where only some members of the party have a railcard, or where different types of railcards need to be used, you will need to make two separate bookings.
Please take your railcard(s) with you on your journey – the train manager will ask to see it / them when checking your tickets.
- Young Persons Railcard
- Senior Railcard
- Family Railcard (save 33% on adult fares and 60% on child fares)
- Network Railcard
- Disabled Persons Railcard
- HM Forces Railcard
- New Deal Railcard
All of the cards are valid for 12 months and can be used with any of the train companies across the National Rail network.
You can find more details about how to apply for a railcard by visiting www.railcard.co.uk.
Children aged between 5 and 15
Children aged between 5 and 15 generally travel at half the adult price – the total fare quoted on the booking pages will include this discount already applied. For children who are under 16 but look as if they are 16 or over we advise that you bring proof of age (such as a passport) which the train manager may ask to see.
One of the most economical ways to purchase a child’s fare can be to purchase a Family Rail Card. This gives a 33% discount on adult fares and a 60% discount on child fares when all travelling together.
Children under 5 Children who are less than 5 travel free of charge – you do not need to purchase a ticket for them. Please be aware that they will not have a seat reservation so may have to stand or sit on your knee if the train is busy. If you want to have a guaranteed seat for a child under 5 then you will need to purchase a child ticket and reserve a seat.
What are Advance tickets?
These are special tickets for travel on a specific train on a specific date which cannot be changed.
Reservations are compulsory with Advance tickets.
How can I receive my ticket? You can receive your ticket in one of two ways:
- To your mobile phone (free of charge)
- Self-print (free of charge)
How can I receive a ticket to my mobile?
Your ticket is delivered as an SMS message containing both a barcode and a text message containing your journey details. If you are booking for more than one person, the tickets for all of them will be contained in this one SMS. Over 99% of UK phones (and many non-UK phones) can receive a ticket in this way.
The train manager will scan your mobile phone for validity during the journey and your ticket will also be scanned at the gates at London Marylebone.
The text message contains the details of your journey (like a normal paper ticket) and a 2-D barcode made up of black and white squares.
A 2 – D barcode looks like this:
SMART phones and Blackberry devices may have difficulty displaying the barcode, in which case a message will be sent. For security reasons your phone provider may ask you to follow a secure link where you can download the barcode image and store it in a folder of your choosing in your phone.
Some older phones will be sent a text only ticket; this is still valid for travel but will need to be manually checked by our staff.
How can I receive a self print a ticket myself?
You need a printer to print your ticket (which will be A4 in size), and you must bring this with you. Your ticket will contain both your journey and your reservation details (if you have reserved a seat).
Your self-print ticket will be scanned in the same way as a mobile ticket by the train manager and at the gates at Marylebone.
You will need:
- Access to a computer and printer
- Adobe acrobat reader to print the PDF ticket (this can be downloaded free of charge) from www.adobe.com
- Plain A4 white paper to print your ticket
Must I have my ticket with me when I travel?
print@home
Yes, your rail ticket will be sent to you as an e-mail along with an e-mail confirming your booking. Please make sure you print a copy of your ticket before you travel.
tickets by text
Yes, you must save the text message on your mobile phone. This text message is your ticket allowing you to travel and can be checked with the barcode scanners carried by our staff (please turn the backlight on to enable easier scanning).
